These Traders are Bad, and They are On Tour!
Last weekend was the sixth installment of the Bad Trader Tour, in which tastylive personalities bring sincere, funny, and gut-wrenching trading stories to life. Tom Sosnoff was joined by Mike Butler, Nick Battista, Julia Spina, Dr. Jim Schultz and yours truly.
The festivities took place at the Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, California, which is a stone's throw away from the pristine campus of Stanford University. Much like the nearby university, the area is calm but ripe with ingenuity. After all, this is the home of companies like Meta Platforms Inc. (META), Hewlett Packard (HPQ), VMware (VMW) and Tesla (TSLA) to name a few.
For me, the best part about the Bad Trader Tour is getting to talk to all the people before and after the show. Do I love performing? Absolutely! It's what I do. I love telling a story to the crowd because you never know who you might inspire. However, the opportunity to talk to tastynation in a one-on-one setting is more satisfying than anything because my day-to-day job is in some effect based on what the people think about Engineering the Trade, so I am always interested in hearing from the people on the other side of the camera.
While I am too modest to speak for myself, I can say with a straight face that the other presenters rocked it. It was the first time Mikey and Nicky were on the tour at the same time and they crushed it (as I predicted) with their playful but brilliant performance styles. Julia lived up to her name as the "Queen of Quant." As you might expect, Dr. Jim went full on Dr. Jim and in doing so gave the people what they wanted. Finally, Tom Sosnoff closed the show and left them wanting more as he walked off the stage. Don't tell him I said that though. It'll go to his head.
You had to be there to witness it all.
We have the best customers in the world. I mean that sincerely. Additionally, at the risk of starting controversy, the West Coast—particularly the Bay Area—fans are great. They just bring a different flavor. That said, Midwest, Northeast, and Dirty South fans should come to our shows and feel free to prove me wrong. I'd love to hear the other side of the argument. Spoiler alert: I love all our customers.
The question that I hear the most about the tour is "will it be recorded?" The answer is a resounding "no." Here's the deal: you really do have to be there in person. It's a vibe. A bunch of traders gathering in the morning in a gorgeous music venue to discuss option trading is not normal. That's what makes it so darn cool. I always feel that the hidden gem of the whole thing is customers meeting other customers. There is a real sense of community.
See you at the next one? I hope so. Visit tastylive.com/events for more info.
